About DMƒ-stop

I'm Duan. This is the story behind

DMƒ-stop is my way of holding onto the moments that matter through light, landscapes, family, faith, wildlife, travel, and the stories found along the way.

2014

DMƒ begins

We met in 2014, and that beginning slowly became part of the personal story that would later shape the brand.

2016

DMƒ Photography begins

The year we got married, DMƒ Photography began as a small personal name inspired by our initials, and the camera became a way to hold onto the places and moments we were beginning to discover together.

2023

DMƒ-stop is born

As video became a bigger part of the work, DMƒ Photography grew into DMƒ-stop.

Now

A library of moments

The site brings the channels together as one place to follow the stories, places, projects, and memories I keep returning to.

How it started

A name, a first camera, and a Saturday morning at Bainskloof.

DMƒ began after my wife and I got married. I took inspiration from our initials and called it DMƒ Photography, a small name for the beginning of something that felt personal before it felt public.

Soon after I bought my first camera, we drove to Bainskloof Pass on a Saturday morning. I was excited to start playing with it. We had a picnic from the boot of the car and spent the day experimenting, exploring, and capturing what was in front of us.

That memory still matters because it was one of the first times the journey felt real: not polished, not planned too tightly, just a road, a camera, someone I love, and a day worth remembering.

Why I create

Life is short. Some moments deserve to stay a little longer.

I create because I do not want the beautiful parts of life to pass by unnoticed. When I capture a scene as well as I can, it feels like I get to keep it near me for a little longer.

Sometimes that is wildlife in the quiet, sometimes it is a travel day, a creative tool, a project taking shape, or a simple family moment with my wife and our children, a boy and a girl. I am drawn to the way ordinary days can become meaningful when you see them properly.

Faith sits underneath that for me in a quiet way. The world feels full of gifts, and the camera helps me practice noticing them.

From photography to DMƒ-stop

The name changed when the story started moving.

In 2023, DMƒ Photography became DMƒ-stop. The shift made sense because the work had grown beyond still photographs. Video, channels, field notes, travel stories, family moments, and longer projects were all becoming part of the same visual library.

The ƒ-stop still belongs to photography: lenses, light, exposure, patience, and the discipline of choosing what to focus on. But DMƒ-stop gives the brand room to move, to breathe, and to follow the story wherever it goes.

Find your adventure

The journey is already happening. The adventure is what we choose to make of it.

Before "find your adventure", there was another phrase in my head: "journey awaits adventure". The idea was simple. We are all on a journey through life, and adventure is waiting inside it. Whether life becomes an adventure is up to us.

Later, Journey Awaits Adventure became its own channel name, so the broader slogan became "find your adventure". It says the same thing more clearly. Look up. Step out. Make the day count.

I want this site to leave people with the sense that there is something worth joining, something worth seeing, and something they may miss if they never step into the life in front of them.

What you'll find here

Different paths, one visual library.

The channels may follow different subjects, but they come from the same place: a desire to live well, remember honestly, build patiently, and keep choosing the road with purpose.

Part of that has also been the search for a place to break away as a family. Around Cape Town, weekend places are often booked months in advance, and we could not always plan that far ahead. That helped shape the idea of creating our own place to escape, explore, build memories, and one day share that sense of adventure with others.

Wildlife and birds

Field moments, quiet observation, birdlife, and wild spaces that remind me to pay attention.

Scenic travel and adventure

Roads, passes, rivers, trails, and the kind of places that make a normal weekend feel remembered.

Faith, family, and fatherhood

Reflections on being present as a husband and father, and seeing grace in ordinary days.

Technology and photography

Cameras, creative tools, editing, and the practical craft behind holding a moment well.

Building, farm life, and long-term projects

The slow work of making places useful, beautiful, and ready for memories that have not happened yet.

Personal creator journey

The experiments, lessons, and behind-the-scenes pieces that connect the channels into one bigger story.
